Rob Quist & the Great Northern Bluegrass Band will be the headliner for the Eighth Annual Bluegrass on the Bay fundraiser, sponsored by The History Museum, scheduled for Friday night, July 16 at Odd Fellows Park in Great Falls. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Quist, a native of Cut Bank and now of Kalispell, was recently inducted into the University of Montana School of Fine Art’s “Hall of Honors”. He was saluted as “a celebrated Montana musician and composer who has captured the spirit of the West in his music, an evocative and versatile artist whose gift of song has touched the hearts and souls of his countrymen, an eloquent proponent of the history and beauty of the West whose legacy in song will be embraced by generations to follow.”
He has released 15 CD’s and was lead singer, songwriter and founder of such groups as the Mission Mountain Wood Band, The Montana Band and his Great Northern Band.
For this bluegrass concert, Quist says his players are some of the best musicians in Montana.
They are: Ellie Nuno on fiddle and vocals, recognized as one of the top fiddlers in the state. She has played with Montana Rose, The Cat and the Fiddle as well as Quist’s Great Northern Band.
Craig Davey on acoustic guitar and vocals. He has left fans breathless with his guitar stylings and vocal prowess. He is a member of Smart Alex and has appeared with Loose Caboose.
Brian Dumontier on vocals and string bass. He is known for being one of the finest classic rock singers in Montana and has been a long time member of the Great Northern Band.
Quist, who has shared the stage with many musical giants such as Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, and Jay Leno, to name a few, plays banjo, acoustic and resonator guitar and does vocals.
“Together, Quist says, my Great Northern Bluegrass Band brings an exciting mix of my original music and American classics to the stage in a show that is sure to please any audience regardless of their demographics.”
Also featured will be The Blue Canyon Boys from Colorado. Winner of the 2008 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, the band has been picking and entertaining audiences with its unique style of bluegrass in the Colorado area for over six years.
This high energy, bluegrass powerhouse consists of Gary Dark on mandolin, Jason Hicks on guitar, Drew Garrett on bass, and Jeff Scroggins on banjo. Blending incredible brother--duet-style vocals and hard-driving instrumental proficiency, this energetic band has quickly become a mainstay of the Front Range bluegrass scene.
The Blue Canyon Boys have released three CDs consisting of originals and great traditional songs: Just An Ol’ Dirt Road (2006), Hello City Limits (2008) and House of Sorrow (2009)
Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. They are available at both Albertsons stores, and at The History Museum, 422 2nd St. S.
